Charity & Community

Giving back to the community since 1956

Jeans for Charity

Created by the amazing employees at Conewago Enterprises who wanted to give back even more to the community through the company name with their own funds. ‘Jeans for Charity’, invites all office personnel to donate $5 each Friday for the ability to wear jeans in the office. Each month, one charity is featured and upon the closing of that month, the donation is then given to the featured charity. Since creation in early 2018, Conewago has raised over $8,200 dollars for local charities such as Great Strides, Olivia’s House, Adam’s Rescue Mission, Angels of Hope, Roots for Boots, Children’s Miracle Network, Knights of Heroes, Our Military Kids, Thrive, For the Love of a Veteran, Heather Baker Foundation, Jessica & Friends, and so many more.

Giving back to the community has always been a virtue that was embedded into Conewago.

Donald B. Smith Sr., founder of Conewago, explains it best in an interview, “It wasn’t he who built his first business, Donald B. Smith Roofing, Inc., or later his larger venture, Conewago Contractors. Rather it was the community that made it all a success, and that’s why it’s important to always give back.”

In the two last consecutive years, 2017-2019, Conewago has given a total of $1,965,825 to charity and non-profit organizations

Last year alone, 2019, Conewago donated over $820,000 to charity and non-profit organizations, a few of which include:

$100,000 – New Hope Ministries for sponsorship

In support of their ‘Neighborhood Assistance” program and their ‘Mobile Food Pantry’ program

$80,000 – YMCA for sponsorship

Of their ‘Round Table’ campaign, ‘Kids Come First’ campaign, and the lobby/gym area capital campaign

$60,000 – Catholic Charities

For sponsorship of their ‘Homes for Healing’ and ‘Interfaith Shelter’ programs

$50,000 – Adorers Blood of Christ

For sponsorship of their ‘Sisters in Lancaster’ program

$21,500 – Olivia’s House

Throughout the year as general donations but as well as in sponsorship of their annual Olivia’s House Gala Fundraiser, their ‘Walk to Remember’ fundraiser.

Conewago Enterprises Charitable Foundation (CFC)

In October of 2006, Conewago Enterprises took the important step of establishing a Charitable Foundation Committee (CFC) comprised of 12 dedicated employees. The mission of the CFC is to provide financial assistance within the communities where our employees reside.

As a committee, we are extremely proud that through our Company’s success and amazing clients, who support our efforts to give back to the community, has allowed us the ability to raise our budget to $100,000 every year consecutively since 2017; of which we had one year capping in budget at $110,000.
The committee works to distribute these funds every year, from 2006 to 2020, hundreds of deserving charities, charitable events, senior citizens, families in need, and children impacted with misfortune. From local hospitals and nonprofits to a deserving neighbor in need, the CFC maximizes our efforts with a focus on community.

Some of the organizations who have benefited include: Olivia’s House, The Heather Baker Foundation, Jessica & Friends, Sweet Charities, For the Love of a Veteran, Hope Ministries, and so many more, of which the CFC has given $2,000-$3,000 in donations to their organizations. But the donations do not stop there.

Each committee member is required to find a family in need during the Christmas season. Each committee member donates $500 through the purchase of Christmas gifts for the children and food for a Christmas dinner, which is then delivered to the home by the committee member.

The CFC has donated to various community Mini-Thons for local schools as well, including, Conewago Valley Intermediate School, Dover High School, Gettysburg Area High School, Hanover High School, Littlestown High School, Spring Grove High School, and South Western High School.

CFC Annual College Scholarship Awards

In 2007, we dedicated ourselves to positively impacting the life of a deserving student who showed great academic promise, superior character, and a demonstrated financial need enabling them to pursue their college career in the business, science or engineering fields. This program will be expanded in 2021 to include technical and trade schools.

An award recipient must complete an application, submit all requested documents including financial aid forms, and be interviewed by the CFC Committee. Currently, our scholarship provides $5,000.00 a year in aid for four years as long as the student maintains a B average. In 2020, we will have reached $880,000.00 awarded scholarship commitments (from 2007-2024). To request an application for consideration, please call our front desk and ask for the Committee Chairman, Holly Staub.

Conewago’s Response to COVID-19

In March and the early months of the Covid-19 discovery, Conewago members teamed up and saw the forecast this disease would bring to America and the World. Conewago knew this pandemic would wreak havoc on the supply and demand chain, as well as the economy. In response,

Conewago jumped on the train, early and efficiently, purchasing thousands of N95 Respirator masks. Through these actions, Conewago was able to donate:

▪ 480 N95 Masks to the Visiting Nurse Association

▪ 480 N95 Masks to the Brethern Home

▪ 50 N95 Masks to the Homewood at Plum Creek

▪ 120 N95 Masks to the Adams County Emergency Services

▪ 120 N95 Masks to the SAVES Fire Company

▪ 120 N95 Masks to the New Oxford Fire Company

▪ 60 N95 Masks to the Irishtown Fire Company

▪ Transported via company aircraft 20,000 Face Shields from Munice, IN to Boston, MA
